Cardboard Boxes

Cardboard boxes are a type of container used for the packaging, shipping, and storage of a range of goods sold to customers or businesses in retail stores.
Packaging determinants is the study of how to better secure products during shipping, when they may be subjected to different forms of stress such as mechanical vibration, shock, and thermal cycling, to name a few.
Cardboard comes in a variety of sizes and shapes, from essential storage boxes to multi-colored card stock. Cardboard is a generic term for heavier paper-based goods that can vary in manufacturing method and aesthetic.
In conclusion, it can be used in a wide assortment of applications. Since cardboard is a category of materials rather than a single material, it’s easier to think of it in terms of three distinct groups: paperboard, corrugated fiberboard, and card stock.

Types of Cardboard Box and Cardboard material:

Cardboard can be regarded as a form of paper, and it can be produced in a single layer or several layers, depending on the production equipment (using a cardboard tube machine). The products used in packaging are generally classified into three categories.
  • Paper
  • Paperboard
  • Cardboard
SM Custom Packaging supplies a range of different types of boxes customized or printed to meet your individual needs. Explore our range below:

Shelf Set Boxes

Shelf-equipped boxes are the kind of package you’ll find on store shelves with various items for sale. As a result, these boxes usually serve two purposes: bringing your goods into stores safely and displaying your products and branding attractively. This type of package can be customized to fit your product and pack size, either as a single-piece transit and display case or as a separate over box to save money.Packaging provides various shelf set packaging choices customized with product codes, logos, brand names, barcodes, and package material, making it a perfect transit and display case.

Archive Cardboard Boxes

Archive boxes are usually sold as a set with a cover, but they can also be purchased as a single item. This is because this type of box is made to be stacked and kept for extended periods. This type of box can hold various objects, but it’s most widely used for paper storage, self-storage, and other office purposes. Archive boxes are typically made of single-wall cardboard, making them very cost-efficient – inexpensive to produce but extremely durable once assembled.

Depending on your organization’s needs, we already have tooling available for a variety of standard sizes.

Envelop Base

When assembled, the base of this type of box resembles a sealed envelope. The base’s design allows for simple assembly without tape or glue, and it also has a tuck-in lid that fits snugly. We can customize this type of box in a variety of ways to suit your unique needs. We can add perforations to make it ‘shelf ready’ for displaying your items, a locking tab to help it close, or even remove the top flap entirely to create a counter display device.

Cardboard boxes for Practical Purposes

Cardboard is known to be used in the construction of boxes and barrels for practical purposes. In general, small boxes are manufactured with paper, and larger boxes are manufactured with corrugated cardboard. Barrels may be made of pressed cardboard or metal by winding kraft paper layers until the required hardiness is obtained. Usually, the top is made of the same material as the base. The disparity between carton and paperboard, which is the press’s uniform density, also gives the product greater luminosity and consistency. When a box is printed, a paperboard must ensure good quality and visual consistency of the product. The box is intended to produce a package that meets the customer’s business requirements and the product’s requirements in the box that specifies the style, cardboard shape, corners, shutdowns, joint types, and other package factors. It is necessary to note that when you indicate the box’s size, the order must be the front, bottom, and height at all times (i.e., length, width, and depth). In addition to several coatings that can increase those characteristics, such as water resistance, fattening resistance, visuality, etc., several different cardboards can be used to make small folding boxes. However, the selected carton must meet the basic needs set out, such as correct ink sticking, good print surface for quality printing, accurate acceptance of stickers, and easy installation without causing cracks, wrinkles, or tears during folding.

What are corrugated cardboards, and how do they help?

The ‘liner’ or cover, and the medium’s or fluted layer, which is the corrugated portion, are the two essential elements that make up corrugated cardboard.

The corrugated cardboard sheet’s lining or cover is made of kraft or semi-kraft paper and forms a flat profile covering the entire surface area.

This flat profile is attached to the corrugated paper (or medium). Corrugated cardboard is available in a variety of liner and medium combinations.

The medium is a type of paper usually made from bagasse or straw; it has a spongier quality than the liner and a wavy, ‘fluted’ structure. It forms a continuous network of arcs connected to the liner, which offers more excellent resistance since the weight is distributed among the many angles that make up the corrugated cardboard.

The structural nature defines its ability to succeed in the market and deliver the product intact to the customer.

The manufacturer must know how fragile the product is, how it will be handled, how it will be shipped and stored, and what weather conditions will support or damage the product at this time.

Handling and strength tests are needed for all models.

If the box’s structural design is defined, sales factors may be considered, influencing the type of cardboard used and the finishing touches; however, the original structural considerations, prices, and production times cannot be ignored.

Each product that must be packed or wrapped with some form of corrugated cardboard must be packaged so that it is secure and easy to transport and store.

Since it performs four essential functions, corrugated cardboard is one of the most commonly used materials in packaging design:

  • It safeguards the product against harm during delivery, handling, and storage.
  • It holds the product in good condition until it is sold.
  • From the point of origin to the end of the sale, it informs, promotes, and identifies the commodity.
  • It is cost-effective.
    • It can be recycled.

The most recommended corrugated cardboard process is direct printing with high-resolution inkjet systems, which takes advantage of the surface’s excellent absorption and permanence.

Why is Print Quality Vital for Better Marketing?

The printing quality is critical for the proper operation and reading of the items, as more inferior quality can cause changes in the barcodes’ width, preventing scanning with the scanner. This is usually caused by sloppy printing techniques or the use of machines that aren’t built for the printing form or surface in the first place.
